PLANTTRUST®; New ‘Control Released Control’ technology to combat Phytophthora from Everris.

PlantTrust available from Dejex Supplies contains CRC (Controlled Release Control) technology, a new and innovative platform developed by Everris (formerly Scotts). It is a new coating system designed for plant protection products providing gradual, constant and complete release of an active ingredient in the growing media. PlantTrust contains both a controlled release fertiliser and a fungicide effective against Phytophthora.
As commercial growers will already know Phytophthora is one of the most damaging and difficult diseases to control in horticulture and can only be controlled in a preventative way. When symptoms start to occur plants are difficult to save with 8-10% of a crop easily being lost once Phytophthora is present.
The background to the PlantTrust development is that the often first defence of commercial growers against Phytophthora; the systemic fungicide Aliette 80WG (fosetyl aluminium), which offers broad spectrum disease control, will no longer be able to buy after 31st October 2011. This is due to Aliette not receiving support in the EU pesticides review Annex 3 registration process; this will mean growers have until 31st October 2012 to use any remaining stock.
PlantTrust Overview:
- Contains both a controlled release fertiliser and fungicide.
- Provides long lasting protection against Phytophthora root-rot (Phytophthora cinnamomi) infection for a period of up to 5 months after potting.
- Feeds crops for 2-3 months.
PlantTrust is a granular product which gradually, constantly and completely releases the active ingredient, preventing disease propagation. In cases of extreme disease pressure, complementary treatment could be needed 3-4 months after potting.

It is recommended not to use any starter fertiliser as the PlantTrust carrier is a standard Osmocote starter feed, the PlantTrust can however be combined with controlled release fertilisers with a delayed release start such as Osmocote Exact Protect.
